August 2011

Hello,
Hope everyone is having a great summer!

We went to two weddings this month, one here locally and one in Indiana.
Our friends, Jeff and Lynn, got married the beginning of the month here locally; it was a beautiful ceremony and we had a lot of fun with everyone there.

A week and a half ago we flew out to Chicago airport and then drove to Indiana for our friend's, CiJai and Jason, wedding. We had an interesting trip. Rachel loved the bus ride from the park and ride to the airport and then she experienced her first plane ride; she liked to look out the window! We got to Chicago airport, Adam heard his name called over the loud speaker so asked a security guard where to go, he said he didn't know. Adam then asked if it was due to his golf clubs being in oversized luggage; the guard didn't really answer he just said "go over there." We then got our luggage and our rental car (which I had requested the wrong one so had to change so that didn't help the rest of our story...) and headed to Indiana. Adam went to pay for something and it was then we realized they had called him to let him know they found his wallet on the plane... (we are now 2 hrs away from the airport). I called the airport who stated I needed to talk to the airlines. I called the airlines who stated I needed to talk to the airport (can you feel our frustration yet???) Then I get some guy who tells us to calm down as it was our fault we lost something...I politely hung up on him. Needless to say we checked into our hotel room and went back to Chicago the next day to retrieve his wallet.
The GPS we got in our rental car, took us through the most ghetto part of town there was, it was an interesting experience...to see that part of town and then go to Indiana to Amish country was such a change in culture in less than 200 miles.
It was a good thing we had to go back actually because the car rental had placed insurance on our car when I said I didn't want any so we had to redo the paperwork in person.
We then grab lunch and head back as I was hosting CiJai's bachlorette party that night and needed to be back in time to get ready and take her out as we had reservations. Needless to say our amazing luck continued to follow us. The highway had one lane closed and a complete stand-still for about an hour and a half so I was over an hour late so the girls were all waiting on me and it was another hour to where we had to drive...
Thank goodness the place moved our reservations to whenever we got there! We had dinner and went bowling (we sure are crazy).

The next morning Adam went golfing and Rachel and I hit the pool and enjoyed the morning after our stressful trip so far. Rachel and I got lost a couple times trying to find the wedding venue so that made me frustrated/stressed. That evening was the rehearsal and dinner which both went very well. Rachel was the flower girl and I was a bridesmaid so Adam helped Rachel go down the aisle!

Saturday was the big day; we met CiJai at their farm (which we got lost on the way to) so we could see it. Rachel loved the chickens so was chasing them and catching them (have to check out the pictures on the blog for this) and then I went and got my hair done with CiJai and her mom, Nancy. The wedding party got ready and started pictures and got in our places just in time for the downpour of rain (this is an outside wedding). We waited an hour and the rain finally stopped so the ceremony began and it was beautiful! Rachel did a great job being the flower girl; we are so proud of her. CiJai and her Dad had taken a horse and carriage to the ceremony so afterward Rachel wanted to go see it. She then said, "I go for a ride?" The Amish gentleman said we could jump on and get a ride but Adam and I didn't want to ride in the carriage that was for the bride and groom so instead Adam gathered other kids and put them on and they all got a ride! Rachel really loved that and still reminds us of it. :)

Sunday we checked out of our motel and went to Chicago to stay there and do some tourist stuff until we flew out Monday. We check in and get ready to go to the pool only to find out that the pump is broke so its closed... after all the "plans" not going to plan and being more stressful for us than we could handle we decided to stay local there and go to dinner and a movie instead. We went to the Hollywood Blvd movies; it was cool because you sit in these leather chairs with a table in front of you and then you order something from their menu and they bring it out after the movie started. We made it through half the movie and Rachel was ready for bed; I forgot her blanket at the motel...another bummer so we had to leave.

We got up early the next day, went to breakfast and got the airport very early to make sure everything went okay to get home. Good to be home.

Rachel was such a trooper through all of this, the long car rides, Mommy and Daddy being frustrated.
She reminds us that she had fun though. She says, "Hey guess what? Do you remember when I rode the horsie?" or "Do you remember when I was a flower girl?"

Enjoy the pictures.
